The Crusades were a series of "holy wars" fought between the Christians and Muslims over the city of Jerusalem, which was considered a holy land by both religions. The Crusades are often considered one of the most successful failures in history. Why were the Crusades considered a failure? How can a failure be also considered successful?

The crusades were considered a failure because they failed to completely take back the holy land(Jurusilum.)This failure although was also considered successful because they also found new lands to spread out and expand their territory for more trading and farming in Asia.
ReplyDeleteThe crusades were a failure but also a huge impact in our history. The crusades gave better knowledge to people and gave them reasons to get out in the world and explore. That is why this failure was a success.
ReplyDeleteA failure can be considered a success in many ways. One way is that if you want to make a point about something that you feel is important, but you fail at it, someone might realize what you are trying to do and help the problem. Proving a point to make someone see how things should be can be a success even though you failed.
ReplyDeleteThe crusades where considered a failiure because they didn't recive their holy land back from the muslims and they still havnt till this day... Even after the church promisied god was on their side and they would be wealthy. The Muslims had a stronger army then they did. Muslis also where prepared unlike the Christians. The Christians went about by bringing there stick like weapons and pitchforks.
ReplyDeleteA failure can be considered so successful because when they came back from Jerusalem ( the holy land) they brought back parts of different cultures such as different luxaries such as silks and philoshaphy came over with a new " thirst" of knowladge to learn about the world. And now they are swear there is a different place in the world that doesn't have this horriable lifestyle.. These wars expand Europe trade and lead us into the rennasance peirod.

ReplyDeleteThe crusades were a succses because they helped spread different culture through the new land and introduced new luxuries. They were seen as a failure because they lost their holy land to the muslims. The crusades can be seen as a succses because they were able to bring back new information from the byzantine and islamic emipires.
ReplyDeleteThe crusades were a failure because they were a useless series of wars, But what the crusaders brought back were spices, culture, a broader look at the world, new trades and many other ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe new trades brought learning and algebra back to the world it eventually would lead to the Renasance which would bring people to explore the americas which lead to life we know today

ReplyDeleteA failure can also be considered a success cause it shows the passion u had to try your hardest and to earn respect for that one thing.

just like wht panda-lover said A failure can considered as successful because when they came back from the crusades they brought back knowledge of wht life was like outside of manors and it brought Europe out of the dark ages

The crusades were considered a failure because
ReplyDeletethe christians did not gain Jerusalem back so the muslims still owned the land.
A faliure can also be successful because your initial plan may not work out but something positve could happen. For example the crusades did not win but Europe found different land and items like salt and slik came about.
The crusades were considered a failure by how the christians were unsuccessful in gaining back their holy land, Jerusalem. This is also successful by how they were able to gai more land to spread their territory to continue building their civilization in farming and new learnings of the outside world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Panda_lover because of how the christians brought back diffrent luxuries to gain knowledge about the outside world. The people of the manors learned that there was life outside their Manor. They would leave their Manor and travel.
ReplyDeleteThe crusades might have been a failure because they did not win many wars. A failure can be considered a success because you can learn new things from the loss.
ReplyDeleteI agree with panda_lover because they failed at gaining The Holy Land(Jerusalem) but they came back with new knowledge. This knowledge led into a new period that was full of new things a somewhat prosperous.

ReplyDeleteAlthough the Christian's lost the Holy Land, they gained increased trade and commerce. Goods from the Middle East became available throughout Europe. Europeans advanced their culture learning more about mathematics, science and art. Also as feudalism weakened European kings gained more power. These were gains made even though the war was lost.

ReplyDeleteThe crusades were considered a failure because in the end nothing was really accomplished, the christians did not reconquer the holy land but this did help things change in the middle ages for example people now no longer stayed on their manor and people began to explore new people and new places.

Well The Crusades were considered a failure because when they went to war against the muslims they were out ranked and out matched. All they could gain was half of Jerusalem(Holy land)....apperently that wasn't good enough so they tried to conquer the rest..(bad idea) In the end they lost miserably...
ReplyDeleteOn the Bright side they brought back goodsz and what not to trade that they ddnt already havee. Which helped change them from Manors too Towns...lol i think..hmm(: Correct me if im wrong. haa.
i agree with fungirl77. the crusades were a failure in which they were lost. but a success in which the people who could never leave the manor gained more learnings about the world outside the manor.

ReplyDeleteNow i dont know if this is right but im pretty sure that at one point during the crusades the Christians and musslims were equal in jersulum. but then the christians were greedy and try to gain all of the city. then they failed but then sometime down the road the musslims left the land. so all the fighting led to nothing. this is why i feel the crusades is the biggest failure.

ReplyDeleteThe crusades was a successful failure because of they had a major impact on the world and the slaves who fought in the crusades had came back with knowledge of how to do things. The manors started changing and guilds began to form. that is what i think it was a successful failure.
The Crusades were considered a failure because the Christians could not capture the Holy Land of Jerusalem. Although this was a failure, it was also successful because there was a lot of cultural diffusion in which the Christians took place in. The Crusades also helped the Christians get out of the Middle Ages.

ReplyDeletethere was nothing that was accomplished, but at least cultural diffusion happened, unfortunately the bubonic plague came with all this trade..
the crusades were a failure because the christians were not as good as the mulsims and they could win against their weapons and tactics, it was a success because the crusades broght different cultures to the middle ages, it also lead to trade which was a big part of the commercial revolution.

ReplyDeletethe failure was considered a success. this is because explored and found new land on which they could expand their empire to and farm. it also increased trading. the serfs also saw a new life, not just staying on manors and working theyre whole lives. im pretty sure it motivated and interested peole to want to learn.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone who said that the Crusades were a failure due to how long the Muslims won each war and kept Jerusalem. I also think they were a failure because of the Bubonic Plague taking place and killing over one third of the population so there were less knights than needed and the Christians could not win Jerusalem.

The crusades were considered a failure because the christians failed to regain their holy land. they were condidered a success because they got introduced to new luxuries such as cloth and silk. also they got introduced to nw culture as well.
ReplyDeleteThe crusades were a failure because they didn't take back their holy land. But in the end, they found new land so that was a good thing. If they didn't fail, they wouldn't have taken the extra step and find new things. Sometimes failure is a good thing in the end, if you don't give up.
