The goal is to create thoughtful discussion on topics related to Global Studies. ReplyDeleteHistory is a part of our past. History is important because it will help us with the mistakes that were made, to not make them again. History is also important because it helps you know where you came from ,and what happened.

History is so important because it shows us how not to make mistakes that have already happened, and prevent future problems.
Also, history shows us where important events happened and how that event happened.

I also think this quote means the past will lead you to answers the next day, or answers in the future.
im answering question number one. what is history, and why is it important? history is information from past years, civilations, or cultures when it is all told together, it is almost like a big story.
ReplyDeletehistory is important because we dont want the bad history to repeat itself for example, the great depression if everybody knew more about the great depression that happened in the 1940's maybe our economy wouldnt be as bad as it is today.

this is because we would not be what we are now if we did not have the cave men and the brains of the past. also we can make our lives better if we understand the past because if we study how people survied in the past we can build apon them and be tecnolgly graeter that the people before us

What is history and why is it important today? History is all about the past. It has left us so many questions today. Without it, none of us would even be here. It is about the way our ancestors had lived and discovered many important things long before any of us were born. Like columbus or washington or Martin Luther King jr. or even Babe Ruth. History is worth knowing and is very interesting to learn.

"what is history and why is it important." History is the what has happened in the past. and its is recorded so that we do not make mistakes like what twilight18eclipse95 said. but i also think that it is also something that is used to track current events in the world at that time peiod.
ReplyDeleteHistory is important because the more recorded information there is in the world the more we can learn. For example everybody is worried about global warming, but i think that it is just a fluxuation in the normal climate pattern and that everything will eventually be restored. if we had a sorces that went far enough back in time maybe that migh have been proven but we cannot know because there are no sources to prove or disprove to my knowlage.

ReplyDeleteI think this quote means that if we do not completely understand or learn the past then we are bound to repeat it.

It is important to me because the world would be completly different if just one little thing was changed in the past.
I think that history is what has happened in the past and it is what we study so we have a better understanding of what our world has been through. I think that history is important because our world wouldn't be the way it is right now if we didn't have history. So many things have happened that it's important to know when different evnts occured andwhy they did.

ReplyDelete"If you want to understand today, then you have to research yesterday"-pearl buck. if you look at all of the improvements on technology that man has made, the cell phone, the ipod, flat screen moniters and tv's, you tell yourself, man this is so cool, i'd love to meet the guy who made this. All of those mentioned things are just improvements on inventions that have already been created in the past, or "yesterday" And to understand what those things are, we must first understand what their origional purpose was. Before they were to fit other peoples needs, Because life was hard back then. Now we just want them for the luxuries man has put into them. So without the past, there would have been no flat screen tv. And in order to understand it, we must research where it came from and why.

My dad told me this awesome Quote from George Santayana,"Those who cannot remember the past, are condemed to repeat it." This quote means to me that its a good idea to learn history so we dont make the same mistakes our ansestors made.
ReplyDeleteHistory's something like a type a reference because its looked apon to learn about tha past. Its important because it helped us learn from tha mistakes of our ancestors so WE can strive without to much difficulty...without History ALL wud be lost...thats my oppinion:]

i agree with James 1995 because if one tiny incident changed, the world would different from how it is now. like if we lost the revolution,we could still be ruled by England. or if the south won the civil war there could still be slaves.
ReplyDeletei agree with heyitsme that history does repeat over and over but i think soon we will learn how to prevent a depression because of it happening. Maybe it wont stop it completly but this 'depression' isnt nearly as bad as the great depression and hopefully it will just keep on getting less and less like the one before.

First of all, i think history can be the events from a long time ago.. but i also think it can be the events from just recently too. For example, the twin towers didnt crash a long time ago.. actually compared to other events it happened recently. it could be what you ate for brakfast this morning..:)) ... now its history..

i totally agree yoshi572.!History might not repeat itself excactly.. but it gets pretty close.for example some people belive that we are having another great depression... but that was 25% of the work force was unimployed.. its not nearly as close but it might get there so we have to learn from the past mistakes..
ReplyDeleteI dont think that it is fair that there were different laws for different social classes and for men and women in hamarabis laws. i believe that people should be treated equally no matter what kind of money you have or what gender they were. I think that each situation should be judged individually and the judgment should be the same no matter what kind of person you are. if the same wrong doing has occured why should it matter how much money you had, every one should have been tryed equally.

ReplyDeleteA. A Democracy is a government in which citizens are free and have the ability to vote. They have more of a say in what happens in this type of government.
ReplyDeleteB. A citizen is a person who is a part of the government or city that has a role in it's everday life. This person is expected to follow the laws and rules that are put into place by their government.
C. Some responsibilities of a citizen are to follow the laws of the government, to be a working member of society, and contribute his/her skills to make it better.
